Kiawah Golf Guide

| Charleston Black Cab | Blog

The readers of Conde Nast have voted and Kiawah Island came in at the top. This beautiful example of a perfect Southern retreat was voted the #1 island in the States and the #2 island in the world! It is not only the lush greenery, sandy beaches and luxurious accommodations that influenced readers to vote for Kiawah; it really boils down to experiencing Southern hospitality at its peak. Part of the Southern experience is taking part in our pastimes, and of course all are offered on the island. Enjoy a rigorous game of tennis, peddle your cruiser on biking trails, stroll miles of beach, explore a nature preserve, and you cannot pass on the chance to play golf. Five legendary championship golf courses designed by some of golf’s most well-known architects are all conveniently located around Kiawah Island. It’s no wonder the island has hosted every major American PGA event.

Enthusiasts and pros have praised the courses for their challenging layouts and beautiful natural scenery. These courses are the finest South Carolina has to offer.

Turtle Point

Jack Nicklaus wants you to choose a club carefully, prepare a good strategy and use your noggin to achieve success at Turtle Point. The opportunity to practice driving the ball on this long, classically designed course makes it a great choice for a challenging day at this 4.5 star course.

Cougar Point

The Cougar Point Course, designed in 1996 by Gary Player, is unforgettable for its scenic visual treats and personality. A local preferred course, it was dubbed the “Golf Course of The Year” by the South Carolina Golf Course Owners Association.

Osprey Point

Osprey Point offers lakes, marshes, palmettos and magnolias as a great example of Southern Low country style golfing. This course is beautiful and forgiving for top players and novices alike. It is a great first choice to help you become comfortable with Kiawah Island golf. Osprey Point ranked 10th in Golf For Women magazine and also earned a place in the “50 Best Golf Courses for Women” and received a 4.5 star rating from Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” reader’s poll.

Oak Point

A rolling landscape, billowing fairways and tasking greens are what make Oak Point one of a kind. This course was designed by Clyde Johnston, who loved to call it a “Scottish style” course. Kiawah gave it a series of renovations in 2004 to bring it to its current layout and status. It’s said to be a firm and fast links style course. Oak Point was awarded 4.5 stars from Golf Digestmagazine in their “Best Places to Play” poll.

Ocean Course

This Pete Dye course is the epitome of the Kiawah experience. Ocean Course is famous for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The combination of great architecture and unpredictable sea breezes make it a popular favorite of golfing pros. There is no other course in the Northern Hemisphere with as many seaside holes, offering fantastic clear views throughout the entire match.

Ocean Course has hosted the 2007 Senior PGA as well as the 2012 PGA Championships and will also host the 2021 PGA. Tiger Woods said the course “has a lot of mounding and movement,” while Rory McIlroy said it was “by far his favorite Pete Dye design.”

A golfer at any level will be able to find a course on Kiawah Island that will challenge and satisfy their fantasy of playing at some of the most scenic and well-designed courses in the world. It is an experience we cannot wait to arrange for you.
